The nomination papers for all 24 candidates across four assembly constituencies in Assam, set for bypolls next month, were validated by election officials on Monday. However, scrutiny for the Samaguri constituency was postponed due to discrepancies in the documents of two independent candidates, according to Assam’s Chief Electoral Officer, Anurag Goel.
By-elections are scheduled for November 13 in the Dholai (SC), Sidli (ST), Bongaigaon, Behali, and Samaguri constituencies, as these seats became vacant when their representatives were elected to the Lok Sabha. The vote counting is slated for November 23, with October 30 set as the final date for nomination withdrawal.
A total of 38 candidates filed nominations by last Friday, with nine nominations in Dholai, three in Sidli, eight in Bongaigaon, four in Behali, and 14 in Samaguri. While nominations in Dholai, Sidli, Bongaigaon, and Behali were deemed valid, the Samaguri nominations require further scrutiny, as there were issues with the signatures of two proposers for the independent candidates, Goel added.
