ABSU Demands BTC Voter List In Bodo

The All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) submitted a memorandum to the Assam Election Commission, urging that the Electoral Roll for the upcoming 2025 Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections be published in Bodo alongside Assamese.

This request is in accordance with the Assam Official Language (Amendment) Act, 2020.

ABSU President Dipen Boro emphasized that Bodo, being listed in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution, deserves equal treatment in official records. “This is not merely a request, but a constitutional right,” Boro asserted.

The union also expressed strong disapproval over Bodo being excluded from the Assam Judicial Service Grade-III Mains Examination, where Assamese was made mandatory. A separate memorandum was submitted to the Guwahati High Court Registrar, demanding Bodo’s inclusion in judicial recruitment.

To protest the marginalization of the language, ABSU announced a symbolic demonstration on July 17, where members will burn copies of the exam notice.

Boro condemned the continued neglect of Bodo in official matters despite its constitutional recognition.
