The Departments of Physiology, Biochemistry, and Anatomy at AIIMS Guwahati jointly organised a guest lecture and student activities today to commemorate National Science Day.
The event was attended by over 250 delegates, including faculty members, residents and students from AIIMS Guwahati and nearby institutions such as Kendriya Vidyalaya IIT Guwahati, Kendriya Vidyalaya Borjhar, and ESIC Medical College Guwahati. The purpose of the event was to stimulate the scientific temperament and curiosity among students.
National Science Day serves as a reminder of India’s rich scientific heritage and marks the discovery of the Raman Effect by Sir CV Raman. The theme for National Science Day-2026 was “Women in Science: Catalysing Viksit Bharat”. Women from India have made remarkable contributions across diverse domains of science and technology, including space research, medicine, biotechnology, and fundamental sciences. Prof. Manasi Bhattacharjee, Dean (Academics), addressed the gathering. She emphasized on the need of zeal, curiosity and patience in a journey to any discovery.
Dr. Pradeep Kumar Srivastava, Ex-Dy Director, CSIR-Central Drug Research Institute, Lucknow was the guest speaker of the event. He engaged the audience through “Scientoons”- an innovative science communication approach developed by him that integrates scientific concepts with creative cartoons to simplify complex ideas. His lecture underscored the importance of creativity, innovation, and learning from nature to promote sustainable scientific advancement.
On this occasion, the institute organised activities such as Open Science Quiz, poster competition and Gamification in Learning for the students. The event concluded with prize distribution to students who participated in various activities.
