An important expansion of the Northeastern and Assamese railway networks

Over the past ten years, the railway network in Assam and the Northeast has grown by 1,824 kilometers, which is a noteworthy accomplishment. That exceeds Sri Lanka’s whole railway system. It displays the Modi administration’s dedication to improving the region’s infrastructure in anticipation of increased connectivity and economic expansion. The government has approved Rs. 10,440 crore for Assamese railway projects for the fiscal year 2025–2026. This financing is a component of a broader plan to update and modernize the state’s railway infrastructure. In order to enhance passenger facilities and travel experiences, the plan also calls for the construction of 50 Amrit Bharat Stations in Assam.

It is anticipated that the extension of the railway network will improve tourism and boost the local economy by providing better access to the most remote areas of the nation. By making such expenditures, the government is demonstrating its commitment to the best potential development of the Northeast, which will result in a strong and long-lasting railway network. Assam CM posted on his official X handle: “Did you know that the Assamese and Northeastern railway network has grown by 1,824 kilometers in the past ten years? That’s more than Sri Lanka’s whole rail network! The Modi government is concentrating on the Northeast.”
