Andhra Pradesh CM Congratulates Himanta Biswa Sarma on WEF Debut

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Monday congratulated Himanta Biswa Sarma on becoming the first-ever CM from Assam to attend the World Economic Forum (WEF) annual meeting in Davos in Switzerland. Naidu met Sarma in Zurich this morning and praised him, saying he has scripted history by representing Assam on the global stage. “Met the Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, in Zurich. He has made history by becoming the first Chief Minister from Assam to participate in the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Switzerland. I congratulate him and wish him success,” Naidu said in a post on X.

Chief Minister Sarma will take part in more than 17 meetings at the WEF and sign several memoranda of understanding. He will engage in several forward-looking discussions on the themes like securing a future ready workforce for the next industrial era, travel and tourism — a potential 10 trillion-dollar destination, health and healthcare. He will also present Assam’s industrial progress, investment opportunities, and key success stories as part of India’s broader economic transformation. Founded in 1971, the WEF operates as a non-profit organization. Recognized as one of the most influential business conferences worldwide, it aims to strengthen global economic growth through geopolitics, education and technology, financial policy, and investment. Along with India, nearly 50 countries will take part in the conference. Assam’s participation is expected to open new paths for investment, launch new projects like semiconductor initiatives, and create employment opportunities for the younger generation, thereby benefiting the state across multiple fronts.

It may be noted that for the first time the Central government has given Assam the opportunity to represent the country at the WEF alongside other leading states of the nation. In the past, India’s developed states usually represented the country at this business summit. Apart from Sarma and Chandrababu Naidu, four other Chief Ministers — Devendra Fadnavis of Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh’s Mohan Yadav, Telangana’s A Revanth Reddy, and Jharkhand’s Hemant Soren — will attend the WEF annual meeting.
