Assam Chief Minister announces Panchayat elections likely around Bohag Bihu

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on March 7 that the much-anticipated Panchayat elections in the state are expected to be scheduled around Bohag Bihu, the Assamese New Year festival. The official election schedule will be declared by the end of March, he confirmed.

Speaking on the matter, CM Sarma stated that the Higher Secondary Class 11 examinations would conclude on March 28. Following this, the dates for the local body elections will be announced, paving the way for the polling process. He hinted that the elections are likely to stretch into April and may even extend into May, depending on when the dates are officially announced.

“The election process will begin once the dates are declared, most likely by the end of March. If the announcement is made then, voting could continue through late April. However, if the schedule is revealed in early April, the process may extend further into May,” CM Sarma explained.
