Assam CM inaugurated the Museum of Rabha Hasong

The Museum of Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council in Udaypur, Dudhnoi, Goalpara district, was officially opened on Friday by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. At an investment of Rs. 1.80 crore, this museum was founded with the goal of conserving and promoting the rich cultural heritage of the Rabha people, including their traditional arts, artifacts, costumes, and rituals. Alongside the museum, an e-library was also launched, providing digital access to hundreds of volumes from around the globe.

The Rabha community is expected to see significant socio-economic and cultural development as a result of these new facilities, as the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) declared in a statement on X. CM Sarma honored King Veer Parshuram, a Rabha king renowned for his defiance of the Mughal Empire, during the occasion. According to him, the government has also worked to honor the memory of the Rabha king by building a memorial in his honor. The Rabha are an indigenous Tibeto-Burman group that primarily lives in West Bengal, Assam, and Meghalaya.

They are indigenous to Dooars, Lower Assam, and portions of Meghalaya’s Garo Hills. Separately, yesterday Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw officially opened three new train services from Guwahati railway station: the Tinsukia-Naharlagun Express, the Guwahati-New Lakhimpur Janshatabdi Express, and the New Bongaigaon-Guwahati Passenger Train. The goal of these additional train services is to increase northeastern connectivity.
