Assam Congress leader expelled from party on disciplinary grounds

A day after he was placed under suspension, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) today expelled joint secretary Shahnawaz Ahmed from the party on Thursday on disciplinary ground. “As directed by APCC president Gaurav Gogoi Ahmed has been expelled from the party’s primary membership for his grave and unpardonable breach of party discipline, unexpected act of violence, creating intense political hatred among party workers, which has damaged the party’s image,” the expulsion order issued by APCC general secretary (organization) Bipul Gogoi stated. There have been allegations against Ahmed that he was involved in a violent incident on Monday night in Sribhumi’s Nilambazar area. According to reports, he allegedly attacked Zila Parishad member Zillur Chowdhury with a sharp weapon. The incident is said to have caused serious injuries to Chowdhury, who was rushed to Silchar Medical College and Hospital, where he is now undergoing treatment.
