The Assam government plans to honor Babu Chabilal Upadhyaya, a prominent leader of Assam’s Gorkha community and a freedom fighter, by erecting a statue in his memory in Guwahati. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has directed the CEO of Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) to identify a prominent location for the statue’s installation. The project will collaborate closely with Upadhyaya’s family members to ensure the project reflects their views and honours his legacy appropriately.
