Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya highlighted the critical role of women’s participation in nation-building during the Women Achievers’ Award 2026 ceremony held by the FICCI Ladies Organization (FICCI FLO) in Guwahati. He emphasized that empowering women is vital for national progress and noted the various initiatives undertaken by both the central and state governments to enhance women’s empowerment through welfare and development schemes. The ceremony served as a continuation of International Women’s Day celebrations, recognizing the strength and contributions of women in society. Five distinguished women from the Northeast were honored: Dhananda Pathak from Assam, a Kamrupi Lok Geet exponent; Kmoin Wahlang from Meghalaya, a marathon runner; Zomawii Khiangte from Mizoram, a social entrepreneur; Ratna Dey from Tripura, an entrepreneur and exporter; and K. Chokhone from Manipur, founder and CEO of Dianthe Private Limited. Governor Acharya praised the awardees for their dedication and achievements, acknowledging them as role models. He also reflected on the region’s tradition of honoring women’s bravery, mentioning historical figures like Sati Joymoti and Kanaklata Barua as symbols of courage and sacrifice.
