With the war in the Middle East escalating, the Assam government is in touch with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to collect information on people from the state who are in the war-hit region. “Since we currently do not have any data on the number of people from the state residing or stranded in the Middle East, we are constantly in contact with the MEA in order to gather information on people from Assam in the conflict-hit region,” the senior state government official said. People from the state work in different sectors in West Asia, including aviation and business establishments. He said that apart from NRIs from the state working in the Middle East, a sizable number of tourists from the state also visit tourist destinations in the region like Dubai and many of them are believed to have got stuck due to disruption in flight services caused by the war.
