Amid shifting political developments in Assam, Leader of Opposition Debabrata Saikia has made it clear that he will not leave the Congress to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). His statement comes soon after senior leader Pradyut Bordoloi resigned from the Congress and joined the BJP. Reacting to the development, Saikia described Bordoloi’s exit as “unfortunate.” He said Bordoloi had been a senior leader who received respect and responsibility in the party over the years. According to Saikia, such a sudden decision raises questions about political commitment and ethics.
Saikia also responded to remarks by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who had suggested that he too might switch sides. Dismissing the claim, Saikia said the statement was “baseless and misleading.” He made it clear that his political journey is not driven by power. “My politics is not about power. It is about ideology, values and commitment to public service,” Saikia said. He added that the principles taught by his parents continue to guide him and that he would not compromise on them.
The Congress leader stressed the importance of public trust and said he would continue to serve people with honesty. He said maintaining the faith of the people remains his priority.
