On the night of August 19, Assam Police apprehended three Bangladeshi nationals who had illegally entered India through Tripura. The detained individuals, hailing from Rajshahi district in Bangladesh, were identified as MD Abu Shaid, Asadul Islam, and MD Sarwar.
One of the apprehended men was found in possession of an Aadhaar card, raising concerns about the misuse of India’s biometric identification system. Aadhaar is intended for legal residents, and its presence among the detained individuals suggests potential issues with preventing repeat illegal entries.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma addressed the incident via social media, confirming the arrests and noting that the men had intended to travel to Chennai for employment. “Assam Police apprehended three Bangladeshi nationals last night who entered India from the Tripura side,” Sarma stated.
