Assam RGU to Host BCI National Inter-University Moot Court Competition from January 29

The Assam Royal Global University (RGU) will be hosting the 38th Bar Council of India (BCI) National All India Inter-University Moot Court Competition 2026, one of the most prestigious and competitive moot court events in the country, from January 29 to 31, 2026. Being held for the first time in Northeast India, the competition, organized under the aegis of the Bar Council of India and the Bar Council of India Trust-Pearl First, will bring together law students from universities across India.

This has been announced at a press meet organized by Royal Global University here today. The press meet was addressed by Prof. A. K. Buragohain, Prof. Bhuban Chandra Barooah, Dean, Royal School of Law & Administration (RSLA); Advocate Rakhee Sirauthia Chowdhury, Visiting Faculty, Royal School of Law & Administration; Dr. D. N. Singh, Registrar (Academics), and Angira Mimani, Associate Dean, Student Affairs, RGU. It was moderated by Dr Rani Pathak Das, Public Relations Officer, RGU. Addressing the media on Tuesday, Vice Chancellor, Royal Global University; Prof. A. K. Buragohain said that the Bar Council of India National Moot Court Competition is regarded as a benchmark for legal education in India.
“It provides a national platform for budding lawyers to hone their skills in legal research, drafting, oral advocacy, and courtroom etiquette, while fostering excellence and professionalism in the legal fraternity. The event at RGU will witness rigorous rounds of legal argumentation, research excellence, and advocacy skills in a simulated courtroom environment,” Prof. Buragohain said.

Dean, Royal School of Law and Administration Prof. Bhuban Chandra Barooah stated that the moot court rounds would be judged by an eminent panel comprising Judges, Senior Advocates of Gauhati High Court, leading advocates, and renowned academicians from premier law institutions, ensuring a high standard of evaluation and academic rigour. “Till now, 65 teams from various parts of India have registered to participate in the competition. The Final Round will be graced by Hon’ble Mr. Justice Kalyan Rai Surana, Judge, Gauhati High Court, Mr. Dilip Majumdar, Senior Advocate, Gauhati High Court, Dr. Shaiwal Satyarthi, Professor of Law, University of Delhi”, Prof. Barooah said.

Speaking to the media, Advocate Rakhee Sirauthia Chowdhury said that the inauguration ceremony will be held on January 30 and graced by Justice Dinesh Maheshwari, Former Judge, Supreme Court of India and Chairperson, Law Commission of India, as the chief guest. The ceremony will also feature an address by Apurba Kumar Sharma, Senior Advocate and Chairman, Executive Committee, Bar Council of India.
“With Royal Global University hosting this landmark national event, Guwahati is poised to emerge as a significant hub for legal education and advocacy in the country”, Chowdhury said. Justice Ujjal Bhuyan, Judge, Supreme Court of India will be the chief guest of the valedictory ceremony scheduled for January 31. The programmer will also include addresses by Manan Kumar Mishra, senior advocate, Chairman, Bar Council of India and Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha).
