Assam’s mobile internet suspension, a Step towards transparent examinations

In a bid to ensure fairness in the upcoming Assam Direct Recruitment Examination (ADRE), mobile internet services across Assam will be suspended on Sunday, October 27, from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm, as per an official order issued Friday. This suspension marks the third such instance in the past two months, intended to prevent exam malpractices and maintain transparency.

The state-level exams, organized by the recruitment commission, will be conducted in two shifts across 28 districts. The morning shift, from 9:00 am to 11:30 am, is for candidates applying for Higher Secondary Leaving Certificate (HSLC) level posts, with 8,27,130 candidates attending at 1,484 centers. The afternoon shift, from 1:30 pm to 4:00 pm, is designated for candidates vying for Class VIII level positions, involving 5,52,002 candidates across 808 centers.

Ajay Tewari, Assam’s additional chief secretary for the Home and Political Department, stated in the order, “Mobile internet, mobile WiFi, and mobile data services of all providers will remain suspended…to prevent any law and order issues that could impact public safety and to uphold a fair examination process.”
