Assam’s U-16 star Julien Konwar blazes century, propels team to lead against Bangladesh U-15

Assam’s under-16 cricket sensation Julien Konwar left an indelible mark in the ongoing match against Bangladesh U-15 as he smashed an impressive century (122 runs) on Monday at the Shaheed Kamaruzzaman Stadium in Rajshahi. Konwar’s stellar performance spearheaded Assam’s charge, enabling them to clinch a crucial first-innings lead in the enthralling three-day encounter. In a riveting display of skill and determination, Assam U-16 posted a commendable total of 284 runs, losing all their wickets in 66 overs during their first innings. This formidable response came in answer to Bangladesh U-15’s initial score of 272 runs.

Julien Konwar’s heroic innings, featuring 122 runs off 121 balls, embellished with 22 boundaries and a six, proved instrumental in Assam’s bid for dominance. As the curtains fell on day two, the hosts were positioned at 25/1 in 11 overs. Earlier in the day, the host team resumed their innings at 256/8, ultimately being bundled out for 272 runs in 95.5 overs, with Sourav Karmakar (84) and Shimanto Roy Rinku (62) making notable contributions.

Assam’s bowling prowess shone brightly, with Manash Pratim Barman leading the charge with 3 wickets for 36 runs. Amit Choudhury (2/21), Alham Wahid (2/49), and Manish Mahato (2/55) showcased precision and control in their bowling spells. Despite a shaky start with the early dismissal of Achyut Das for a duck, Julien Konwar’s aggressive batting ensured a steady flow of runs. Manish Mahato remained unbeaten on 52 runs, further bolstering Assam’s position.
