Bangkok, Singapore Flights via Guwahati to Resume as Drukair Expands Connectivity

Drukair, the national airline of Bhutan, has declared the reintroduction of twice-weekly flights from Paro to Bangkok through Guwahati, along with a new third weekly frequency on its Singapore route via Guwahati, set to begin in April 2026. This venture aims to restore a vital link that historically facilitated tourism, medical travel, education, and business exchanges between Bhutan, the Northeast states of India, and Thailand. The Bangkok route is crucial, functioning as a regional gateway with substantial global connectivity, which is anticipated to enhance tourism flows into Bhutan while benefiting Bhutanese travelers heading abroad.

The expanded services will include the Paro-Guwahati-Singapore (v.v.) and Paro-Guwahati-Bangkok (v.v.) routes, thereby reinforcing Bhutan’s regional air connectivity and diversifying travel choices for passengers traveling between South and Southeast Asia. The introduction of the additional Singapore frequency is a strategic move responding to a sustained increase in passenger demand, reflecting Drukair’s commitment to enhancing access to significant international gateways. Singapore serves as a vital aviation and financial hub, facilitating seamless connections to numerous destinations across the Asia-Pacific, Europe, Australia, and North America. The additional flights are expected to provide enhanced flexibility and improved scheduling, benefiting both inbound and outbound travelers.

Mr. Tandi Wangchuk, CEO of Drukair, emphasized that these developments mark a considerable advancement in the airline’s network expansion strategy, aligning with India’s ‘Act East Policy’ and catering to the transit needs of the Gelephu Mindfulness City (GMC) in southern Bhutan. The new services are a response to increasing market demand and underline Drukair’s essential role in linking Bhutan with crucial regional and global hubs. Improved connectivity is crucial for fostering tourism growth, promoting business and educational exchanges, and enhancing Bhutan’s engagement in international markets. In light of these expansions, Drukair remains committed to operating sustainably and responsibly, ensuring safety and service excellence.

These enhancements not only reflect Drukair’s dedication to Bhutan’s economic development goals by enhancing market access and fostering trade and investment relationships but also promote high-value, sustainable tourism. By utilizing Guwahati as a strategic transit hub, the airline aims to bolster regional integration, maximizing operational efficiency and passenger convenience.
