Cardiac Care Enters a New Era: Medanta Showcases Future of Advanced Heart Treatment

Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are emerging as a serious and growing public health concern in Assam, now ranking among the leading causes of death in adults over 40. Alarmingly, recent studies suggest that people living in urban areas — including those in hilly regions — are increasingly at risk of developing heart disease even before the age of 40. Gurugram-based Medanta – The Medicity, ranked India’s Best Private Hospital by Newsweek for six consecutive years, continues to lead in clinical research and advanced treatment for a wide range of cardiac conditions, including coronary artery disease (CAD) and Valvular Heart Disease (VHD). As part of its efforts to strengthen cardiac care access in the Northeast, Medanta brought its specialised expertise to Guwahati.

Addressing the media, Dr. Praveen Chandra, Chairman, Interventional Cardiology, Cardiac Care at Medanta – The Medicity, highlighted the urgent need for early diagnosis and timely management of complex heart diseases. He also reiterated Medanta’s commitment to making world-class cardiac care accessible to patients across India. Understanding the Risks Coronary Artery Disease occurs due to plaque build-up in the arteries supplying blood to the heart. Major risk factors include high cholesterol, smoking, diabetes, hypertension, obesity, chronic stress, unhealthy diet, and lack of physical activity.

Valvular Heart Disease, on the other hand, affects the heart valves, disrupting normal blood flow. Common symptoms include breathlessness, chest discomfort, and fatigue. If left untreated, VHD can lead to heart failure or stroke. Speaking on “Treatment of CAD & Valvular Heart Diseases in 2026 – Where Have We Reached”, Dr. Chandra said: “We now have highly advanced cardiac interventions — including modern valve repair and replacement procedures where damaged valves are restored or replaced with artificial ones; minimally invasive small-access surgeries that reduce pain, scarring, and recovery time; robotic-assisted surgery offering superior precision during complex procedures; and targeted interventions to manage uncontrolled blood pressure and cholesterol.”

He further emphasized that the future of heart care lies in a preventive and technology-driven approach. “By integrating medical expertise, cutting-edge technology, and community health programmes into a unified strategy, we can shift heart care from being reactive to proactive — preventing avoidable complications and saving countless lives,” Dr. Chandra added. Medanta’s outreach in Guwahati marks another step toward bridging regional healthcare gaps and improving access to advanced cardiac treatment for patients in the Northeast.
