The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Assam launched a statewide crackdown on the creation and circulation of Child Sexual Exploitative and Abuse Material (CSEAM), arresting seven key accused within 24 hours of receiving intelligence inputs.
The operation was initiated following alerts from the Cyber Tipline, a centralized system that collects reports related to online child sexual exploitation and abusive material. Acting in coordination with district police units, CID Assam conducted simultaneous operations across multiple districts on January 29.
Officials said several FIRs were registered under relevant provisions of the POCSO Act and the Information Technology Act, along with sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023, where applicable.
The individuals arrested during the operation are Dulu Boruah – Golaghat district (Dergaon Police Station), Raju Dutta – Golaghat district (Dergaon Police Station), Priyam Handique – Golaghat district (Borpathar Police Station), Hemanta Kalita – Kamrup Metro district (Latasil Police Station), Minhaz Khan – Kamrup district (Palasbari Police Station), Aychan Ali Ahmed – Barpeta district (Baghbor Police Station), Deluwar Husaain – Bajali district (Pathacharkuchi Police Station).
Police stated that the accused were booked under sections related to the electronic transmission and possession of illegal content involving minors.
The operation was supported by live forensic assistance from the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) under the Ministry of Home Affairs. CID Assam also deployed advanced technical tools to trace digital evidence.
Authorities confirmed that mobile devices allegedly used in committing the offences have been seized. Further investigation is underway to identify additional links and dismantle networks involved in the creation and circulation of such material.
Zero Tolerance Policy
Assam Police reiterated its zero-tolerance policy toward crimes against children and emphasized its commitment to ensuring a safer digital environment. Officials urged the public to report any suspected cases of online child exploitation through appropriate reporting platforms.
