The Sarkari Sangeet Vidyalaya (SSV), Morigaon, recently marked the birth anniversary of Rup Konwar Jyoti Prasad Agarwala with an array of vibrant cultural events held at the Srimanta Sankardev Sangha Zila Namghar. The program, aptly titled “Jyoti Alok Sandhanere Rabhar Abhare Haou Aami Jyotisman,” was a heartfelt homage to the legendary figure’s enduring contributions to Assamese culture.
The celebration commenced with a warm welcome by the members of SSV, who felicitated the esteemed guests. Babul Bora, former State General Secretary of Srimanta Sankardev Sangha, delivered an enlightening speech, delving into the life and legacy of Rup Konwar.
The event was formally inaugurated by Angshuman Dutta, the District Cultural Officer (DCO) of Morigaon. In his address, Dutta lauded Rup Konwar’s unwavering commitment to enriching Assamese culture, stating, “Rup Konwar Jyoti Prasad Agarwala’s dedication towards the upliftment of Assamese culture is remarkable.”
Gyan Mohan Deka, President of SSV Morigaon, extended a hearty welcome to all attendees. The event saw the participation of notable figures such as Principal Prasanna Kr. Medhi, Guru Tapash Bordoloi, and Utpala Hukai, alongside Mantu Kr. Nath, Ramajit Bordoloi, Ajoy Deoraja, Binaram Deori, Bhabananda Mahanta, Basanta Raj Kumar Goswami, Jitu Deka, Sonamoni Deka, and Tapan Sarai.
A highlight of the program was a group song performed by the guardians of SSV students, directed by Principal Medhi. Following this, students showcased their talents through various songs and dances, paying tribute to both Rup Konwar Jyoti Prasad Agarwala and Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rabha.
Born on June 17, 1903, and passing on January 17, 1951, Rup Konwar Jyoti Prasad Agarwala was a luminary in the fields of playwriting, songwriting, poetry, and filmmaking. His relentless efforts towards cultural development have left an indelible mark on the state of Assam.
