Dima Hasao honors and conducts a grand procession in honor of the 56th District Day

The 56th anniversary of the district’s creation was commemorated by the Dima Hasao District Administration as District Day. To commemorate the district’s history, the ceremony was held in front of the Dima Hasao Autonomous Council. The government established the North Cachar Hills District, presently known as Dima Hasao, on this day in 1970. On March 30, 2010, the district changed its name to Dima Hasao. With participation from a variety of tribes and communities, government agencies, law enforcement, paramilitary forces, NCC cadets, schoolchildren, and the Assam Rifles pipe band, the celebration started with a vibrant procession through Haflong city.

In front of other important officials, including Executive Member Donpainon Thoasen, MAC Rupali Langthasa i/c Higher Education, Haflong Municipality Board Chairperson Ripa Hojai, the District Commissioner, and the Superintendent of Police, the procession, which began at the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council premises, was formally inaugurated by Mohet Hojai, Chairman of the Dima Hasao Autonomous Council. The district administration gave Padma Shri Joynacharan Bathari recognition for his services to the district during the occasion. The occasion brought to light the importance of Dima Hasao’s status as an independent district under the Indian Constitution’s Sixth Schedule. Numerous authorities and members from the district’s governing organizations attended the festivities, which demonstrated the pride and solidarity of the Dima Hasao community.
