Empowering India’s Workforce: Skill India and Meta Launch AI-Powered Assistant on WhatsApp

The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) has partnered with Meta to launch the Skill India Assistant (SIA), an AI-driven digital skilling platform powered by Meta’s open-source Llama models. Accessible via WhatsApp at +91 8448684032 and the Skill India Digital Hub, SIA represents the first large-scale integration of open-source AI into a nationwide public skilling mission, aiming to provide millions of Indians with easy access to skill courses, training centers, and tailored job opportunities.

Union Minister Jayant Chaudhary highlighted the initiative’s potential to democratize access to skilling, especially in underserved and remote regions. Shivnath Thukral, Meta India’s Vice President and Head of Public Policy, emphasized that SIA leverages open-source AI to foster an inclusive, digitally empowered economy. Currently available in English, Hindi, and Hinglish, SIA plans to expand into regional languages, incorporating user feedback for continuous enhancement.

In Guwahati, SIA is poised to energize Assam’s workforce development by connecting local job seekers with relevant training and employment opportunities, fueling growth in the region’s emerging sectors. This digital intervention aligns with Guwahati’s evolving economic landscape, strengthening its position as a skill hub in Northeast India. By harnessing AI on a familiar platform like WhatsApp, Skill India and Meta are redefining how skill development and job support are delivered across the country.
