GATI Foundation: Godrej Foundation Leads Initiative to Boost Skilled Talent

In a landmark move to make India a global hub for skilled talent, the Godrej Foundation, in collaboration with The Convergence Foundation and industry leader Manish Sabharwal, launched the Global Access to Talent from India (GATI) Foundation. The launch event was held in New Delhi, with External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar as Chief Guest and Minister of State Jayant Chaudhary as Guest of Honour. GATI is a non-profit initiative aimed at creating ethical, structured, and circular pathways for Indian workers to access international job markets. With a projected shortage of 45–50 million skilled and semi-skilled workers in high-income countries by 2030, the foundation seeks to unlock global employment opportunities through collaboration among governments, businesses, and nonprofits.

Leaders from diplomacy, industry, and policy gathered to discuss ethical recruitment, government-to-government cooperation, and industry-led migration models. “Global labour mobility is transformative development,” said Omar Momin, CEO, Godrej Foundation.

From the perspective of Guwahati’s growing skilled youth population, GATI presents a significant opportunity. Local educational institutes and skilling centres can now align their training with international demand, potentially opening new overseas job pathways and boosting remittance-driven economic growth in the Northeast.
