Gaurav Gogoi Denies Rebel Claims in Assam Congress

Senior Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi has dismissed reports of internal dissent within the Assam unit of the Indian National Congress, saying there is no rebellion in the party and that leaders and workers remain united in the larger interest of the state.

Speaking to reporters after arriving in Tezpur on Sunday night, Gogoi said the party leadership has not received any resignation from senior leaders despite speculation following the announcement of the party’s second list of candidates for the upcoming Assembly elections.

He said discussions within a political party are normal and should not be seen as signs of division.

“No resignation letter from any senior Congress leader has been received by us. In the larger interest of Assam, everyone must remain united. There is no rebellion within the Congress. In fact, enthusiasm among the people has increased after the announcement of the candidate list. Discussions are still ongoing within the party regarding the final list,” Gogoi told reporters.

His statement comes amid reports of dissatisfaction among some leaders after the party released its second list of candidates. The issue gained attention after senior Congress leader Praneshwar Basumatary resigned from the party soon after the list was made public, which led to speculation about possible unrest within the state unit.

However, Gogoi sought to play down such reports and said the party remains focused on strengthening its organisation ahead of the elections.

During his visit to Tezpur, the Congress leader met party workers and supporters who gathered in large numbers to welcome him. More than a hundred party workers assembled at a local hotel to interact with Gogoi and discuss preparations for the upcoming polls.

Party sources said the meeting mainly focused on strengthening grassroots mobilisation and improving coordination among party workers at the local level. Discussions were also held on strategies to reach out to voters and strengthen the party’s presence across different constituencies.

Gogoi also held interactions with local party leaders and urged them to work together and maintain unity within the organisation as the election approaches.
