The 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) convention, held in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, from January 8-10, resonated globally as Indian missions and consulates around the world organized vibrant events. From Seychelles to Chile, Indian embassies hosted screenings and cultural programs to mark the occasion. Notably, the Indian Embassy in Riyadh showcased a cultural evening with ghazals by Mohammad Vakil, while Norway’s embassy honored the Indian diaspora with an event at Kjeller’s JK Banquet Hall.
The convention concluded with President Droupadi Murmu presenting the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Awards to 27 distinguished individuals. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the main event, which attracted prominent Indian diaspora representatives, including Oman’s delegation of over 300 members.
The PBD, established in 2003, continues to unite India with its global community, promoting collaboration and the exchange of knowledge and skills. Guwahati saw a surge in activity, with local businesses leveraging the PBD celebrations to highlight Indian cultural products. Retailers saw increased foot traffic as the festivities sparked greater interest in traditional crafts and Indian heritage items, further reinforcing the market’s growing connection with the global Indian diaspora.
