A controversy has emerged in Guwahati over the renaming of a local area, Lakhimijan, after a signboard was removed by the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC). The Dakshin Janakpur Nagarik Samity filed a complaint with the GMC, claiming that a group of individuals attempted to rename the area without proper authorization. However, residents of Miyajaan argue that the name has historical roots and has been in use for a long time. The Janakpur civic body raised the issue in a letter to the Mayor of Guwahati. The GMC has removed the signboard, but no further details have been provided.
