Godrej Agrovet Limited (GAVL), a major player in India’s food and agri-business sectors, has taken a decisive step in its growth strategy by signing a definitive agreement to purchase Tyson India Holdings Limited’s 49% stake in Godrej Tyson Foods Limited (GTFL). This move will increase GAVL’s ownership in GTFL from 51% to 100%, further solidifying its position in the poultry market.
Since 2008, GTFL has been a joint venture between GAVL and Tyson Foods, specializing in processed poultry products and live birds under the ‘Real Good Chicken’ and ‘Yummiez’ brands. The company serves both B2C markets with value-added products and B2B clients with processed chicken for top hotel chains and quick-service restaurants. It also exports products under the Godrej Yummiez brand to several international markets.
Balram Singh Yadav, Managing Director of Godrej Agrovet, praised the partnership with Tyson Foods for its contributions to modernizing poultry processing in India. He highlighted the low household penetration of frozen snacks in India, which presents significant expansion opportunities. Yadav emphasized that GAVL’s focus will remain on enhancing its branded business and leveraging cost-efficient production to grow its market presence.
