A new report by Godrej Jersey, ahead of National Milk Day on November 26, reveals that over half (54%) of Indian consumers consider the quality of milk as their top priority when making purchasing decisions. Titled ‘Bottoms Up…India Says Cheers to Milk!’, the study highlights evolving consumer preferences, emphasizing the growing importance of quality, safety, and hygiene in milk consumption.
Conducted across major cities including Delhi, Lucknow, Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, Chennai, Bangalore, and Kolkata, the survey underscores the increasing awareness of milk adulteration and hygiene. Bhupendra Suri, CEO of Godrej Jersey, remarked, “Consumers now demand hygienic sourcing, proper processing, and packaging assurance. On this National Milk Day, these insights remind us that quality, transparency, and consumer trust remain the foundation of the dairy sector.”
Hygiene emerged as the most important factor for consumers in Pune and Chennai (31%), followed by Bangalore (30%) and Hyderabad (28%). Consumers in Mumbai and Pune (33%) were particularly concerned about the milk’s purity. Additionally, 70% of respondents are willing to pay a premium for high-quality milk, with doctors’ and family friends’ recommendations also playing a significant role in purchasing decisions.
