Growing demand for child vaccinations in Guwahati: Ensuring healthy futures beyond age 1

In India, while immunisation rates are high during a child’s first year, a significant number of children remain partially vaccinated after their first birthday. The Indian Academy of Pediatrics (IAP) has emphasized the importance of 7 essential vaccinations for children aged 1 to 2 years to safeguard against preventable diseases. These include two doses of chickenpox and hepatitis A, a second dose of meningitis and MMR, booster doses of PCV and DTP Hib IPV, and an annual flu shot. These vaccines protect against 14 diseases, including chickenpox, meningitis, measles, and pneumonia, crucial for a child’s healthy development.

Dr. Nirmal Kumar Jain, Senior Child Specialist at the Institute of Human Reproduction in Guwahati, stressed the importance of completing the vaccination schedule to protect children from serious health complications. “These vaccinations shield children from diseases that could impact their long-term health and development,” said Dr. Jain.

Guwahati has seen an increase in demand for vaccines, as parents prioritize their children’s well-being. Healthcare providers are reporting steady growth in vaccination rates, with more families opting for timely immunisation, contributing to a healthier and more informed community.
