A team from the East Guwahati Police District, specifically from Basistha Police Station, successfully dismantled a significant car fraud operation led by Rupjyoti Das, who was identified as the mastermind behind the scheme. Das posed as a Cluster Head of HSBC Bank, utilizing this false identity to rent multiple vehicles under the pretense of them being for official bank purposes. He later deceived unsuspecting third parties by selling these vehicles fraudulently, falsely claiming that they were auctioned by the bank. The operation resulted in the recovery of four vehicles from various locations, which included a Grand i10 Nios, a Maruti Fronx, a Mahindra Scorpio, and a Maruti Suzuki Brezza, all of which were linked to the fraudulent activities and were found in different regions of Assam and Naharlagun, Arunachal Pradesh.
