Guwahati Police issues advisory for a safe, eco-friendly Diwali

As Diwali approaches, Guwahati Police has issued a comprehensive advisory to ensure a safe and environmentally responsible festive season. The advisory encourages residents to choose “Green Crackers,” fireworks certified by CSIR and the National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI) for lower pollutant levels and reduced noise (110-125 decibels). The advisory outlines essential protocols for Diwali celebrations: Designated Time for Fireworks: Green Crackers are allowed strictly between 8:00 PM and 10:00 PM to limit environmental impact. Safe Firework Handling: Residents should store fireworks carefully, ignite them at a safe distance, and wear cotton clothing. A minimum of four meters should be maintained from the ignition point to prevent accidents.

Protection for Children and Pets: Adults are advised to supervise children and use protective eyewear. To ensure pets’ comfort, they should be kept indoors with doors and windows closed. Emergency Preparedness: Water or sand should be kept nearby for emergencies, with a first-aid kit on hand. Emergency numbers (108 and 101) should be readily accessible.Firework Waste Disposal: Leftover materials should be submerged in water before disposal to prevent accidental fires.

Fireworks are strictly prohibited in “Silence Zones” near hospitals, schools, and courts. Additionally, high-decibel fireworks (above 125 dB) are restricted outside the designated timeframe, and residents are cautioned against lighting fireworks indoors or near electric poles.
