Hemangajit Dutta becomes first Assamese Managing Director at EY US

Hemangajit Dutta has made history as the first individual from Assam to be appointed Managing Director at Ernst & Young US LLP (EY US). His journey from North Lakhimpur to the top ranks of a global consulting giant is a story of academic brilliance, perseverance, and professional excellence. Born in North Lakhimpur, Assam, Hemangajit displayed exceptional academic potential from an early age. He secured 3rd rank in the State Education Board exams, followed by a 10th rank in the Science stream of the State Higher Secondary exams at Cotton College. His academic journey continued at NIT Silchar, where he graduated with distinction, securing 2nd rank in his class in B.Tech.

His professional career began at IBM Global Services in Kolkata as a Software Engineer, where he worked on cutting-edge technology solutions for financial services clients. Later, at PwC Consulting, he gained expertise in Microsoft-based applications and tax tools, establishing himself as a rising star in the consulting industry. Determined to make a global impact, Hemangajit pursued an MBA at Emory University’s Goizueta Business School (USA), specializing in strategy and marketing. In 2014, he joined Ernst & Young US LLP, where he played a key role in commercial transformation and sales excellence for Fortune 500 clients across various industries.

In 2024, Hemangajit’s hard work and leadership were recognized with his appointment as Managing Director at EY US, a milestone achievement for an Assamese professional. At EY, he has led large-scale digital transformation projects, particularly in Customer Relationship Management (CRM). His innovative decision-making framework, integrating emotional intelligence with technology best practices, has helped organizations enhance efficiency, automation, and employee satisfaction. His expertise has been sought by Fortune 500 companies across Media, Technology, Telecommunications, and Consumer Products. Additionally, he has supported small businesses, including a minority-owned feminine-care startup in the US, in scaling their operations.
