In a first for the Northeast, the iconic FIFA World Cup 2026 Trophy – one of the most coveted and revered symbols in global sport – will be exhibited at the Barsapara Stadium here on January 13. Assam Minister of Sports and Youth Welfare Nandita Gorlosa addressed a media conference here on Wednesday to confirm that the trophy would arrive in Guwahati at 10am on January 13. “The FIFA World Cup Trophy will make its debut in Assam, which is a first for the Northeast. It will be showcased at the Barsapara Stadium from 3pm on January 13,” Gorlosa said, adding that the coveted Trophy makes its return to India for public display after 12 years. The official ceremony will take place at 8.30pm in the presence of Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma who will formally inaugurate the Trophy tour in the state.“A cultural programme will also be organised on the Coke Studio stage from 3pm., featuring performances by singers Shankuraj Konwar and Rito Riba, among others,” the sports minister said. The trophy’s arrival in Guwahati is a historic milestone for Assam and the rest of the Northeast, placing the region on the international football map and igniting enthusiasm among young football lovers.
