The Embassy of India in Kathmandu, in partnership with the Lumbini Development Trust and Lumbini Buddhist University, commemorated Buddha Jayanti with a series of significant events in Lumbini, underscoring the shared Buddhist heritage and fostering bilateral cultural ties.The events kicked off with an academic symposium on “Buddha Dharma and Global Peace,” drawing scholars and dignitaries to discuss the global impact of Buddha’s teachings. The centerpiece of the celebrations was a vibrant painting exhibition.
Cultural performances highlighted the evening, featuring the dance recital “Shweta Mukti – the Feminine Glory of Nirvana” by Indian artist Kavita Dwivedi and her troupe. Celebrated Indian vocalist Dr. Subhadra Desai delivered poignant Bhajans and Dhamma songs, while Nepal’s renowned music group ‘Sur Sudha’ presented a medley of Buddhist songs, resonating with the spiritual essence of the occasion.
Prominent figures attended the events, including Nepal’s Prime Minister Rt. Hon’ble Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, who served as the Chief Guest. Other notable attendees were Deputy Prime Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha, Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation Minister Hit Bahadur Tamang, and Lumbini Province Chief Minister Jokh Bahadur Mahara, along with senior provincial leaders.
