Jalukbari witnesses massive rally as Himanta Biswa Sarma files nomination

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma organized a significant rally today to submit his nomination papers for the upcoming Assembly elections in the Jalukbari constituency of Guwahati. The event began at the Veterinary College ground in Khanapara and proceeded along GS Road, concluding at the Kamrup (Metro) District Commissioner’s office around 12:30 pm, where Sarma officially filed his nomination. He was accompanied by key family members, including his wife, Riniki Bhuyan Sarma, and son, Nandil Sarma, as well as notable politicians like Guwahati MP Bijulee Kalita Medhi and Guwahati Mayor Mrigen Sarania.

Before the rally commenced, Sarma sought blessings from his mother, Mrinalini Devi. The procession was marked by a palpable atmosphere of enthusiasm, as numerous jubilant supporters participated, engaging in dancing and singing. Many rally attendees carried large cutouts of the lotus, the BJP’s electoral symbol, and vibrant caricatures depicting Sarma in a Superman costume.

Post-nomination, Sarma expressed optimism regarding his re-election from Jalukbari, stating his long-standing representation of the constituency since 2001 and his confidence in garnering public support once more. He predicted that the BJP would secure victory in Assam for a third consecutive term, attributing this confidence to the perceived support of the people. Sarma also mentioned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to hold four election rallies after March 24, and Union Home Minister Amit Shah is expected to conduct 6-8 rallies. Acknowledging potential dissatisfaction among some party leaders regarding nominations, Sarma committed to personally addressing their concerns to ensure their support for the party’s candidates.
