Karnataka CM Turns To Wipro As Bengaluru Traffic Worsens

To tackle traffic congestion on Bengaluru’s Outer Ring Road (ORR), Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has asked Wipro founder Azim Premji to consider permitting limited vehicle movement through Wipro’s campus under mutually agreed terms. The ORR, a major IT corridor, frequently faces heavy traffic, especially near the Iblur junction during peak hours, affecting mobility and productivity.

In a letter dated September 19, Siddaramaiah praised Wipro’s role in Karnataka’s IT growth and socio-economic progress. He noted that traffic experts believe allowing restricted passage through Wipro’s campus could reduce congestion on nearby ORR sections by about 30%, easing commuter woes.

The Chief Minister requested Premji’s cooperation and urged Wipro’s team to collaborate with government officials to finalize a suitable plan soon. This move follows recent calls from Bengaluru industry leaders, like former Infosys CFO Mohandas Pai and Biocon’s Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, urging government action after BlackBuck decided to relocate due to infrastructure and commuting challenges on the ORR.
