Majuli district has achieved a milestone with its first inter-country adoption, where a couple from the United States has adopted two brothers, aged eight and seven, from the area. The adoption ceremony was conducted by Rimpi Borah, coordinator of the Specialised Adoption Agency (SAA) in Majuli, and took place at the Majuli District Commissioner’s office, attended by various officials, including Deputy Commissioner Ratul Chandra Pathak. The children had been living at the SAA Centre since its inception in 2024, which is managed by the NGO Surjudaya, while the State government plans to assume management in the near future. The adoption process adhered strictly to protocols established by the Central Adoption Resource Authority (CARA), which requires prospective parents to apply through its portal, with applications subsequently vetted by the State Adoption Resource Agency (SARA). This event is significant for Majuli, highlighting its efforts in child welfare through international adoption systems.
