Medanta Hospital highlights rising paediatric respiratory risks amid monsoon surge in Guwahati

Gurgaon-based Medanta Hospital, ranked India’s Best Private Hospital by Newsweek for six years in a row, hosted a Continuing Medical Education (CME) event in Guwahati focused on paediatric critical care and respiratory illnesses.

Organized in collaboration with the Indian Academy of Pediatrics (IAP) Guwahati City Branch and IAP Intensive Care Chapter, Assam, the session was led by Dr Praveen Khilnani and Dr Rajiv Uttam of Medanta, Gurugram. Dr Khilnani advocated for the ABCDE assessment model to address common paediatric emergencies, while emphasizing the diagnostic importance of caregiver inputs.

Dr Uttam led a panel discussion on the recent surge in viral and atypical pneumonia, citing increased cases of RSV, mycoplasma pneumonia, and adenoviruses among children under five. He attributed the spike to monsoon-triggered respiratory distress, underscoring the role of vaccinations and nutrition in prevention.

In Guwahati, the paediatric healthcare segment has seen a notable uptick in demand. Hospitals and clinics are witnessing higher patient inflows, while pharmacies report increased sales of nebulizers, pediatric antivirals, and supplements. Healthcare providers are actively investing in awareness and seasonal preparedness to meet growing public concern.
