Medanta hosts awareness program on brachial plexus injuries and computer-assisted plastic surgeries

Medanta – The Medicity, ranked India’s Best Private Hospital by Newsweek for six consecutive years, conducted an awareness program in Shillong on brachial plexus injuries and computer-assisted plastic surgeries. The sessions were organised in collaboration with the Indian Medical Association (IMA), Meghalaya branch, and the Meghalaya Medical Services Association (MMSA).

The initiative, led by Dr. Rakesh Kumar Khazanchi, Chairman of Plastic, Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery at Medanta, focused on managing brachial plexus injuries — a condition caused by trauma or forceful pulling of the arm, leading to reduced motor skills or even paralysis. Highlighting the importance of timely intervention, Dr. Khazanchi said, “If treated within six months, outcomes are favourable for restoring essential motor functions.” He also underlined the role of physical therapy in recovery.

Dr. Khazanchi further presented advancements in computer-aided plastic surgery, explaining how 3-D models, patient-specific implants, and AI-driven planning are transforming craniofacial reconstruction by enhancing precision and outcomes. With rising cases of road accidents and increasing demand for advanced reconstructive surgery, Guwahati’s healthcare market is expected to benefit from greater outreach by top institutions like Medanta. Senior IMA and MMSA officials, including Dr. C Daniala and Dr. Bhaskar Borgohain, attended the program, reaffirming the need for continuous medical education in the region.
