Minister of State for External Affairs and Textiles, Pabitra Margherita, has embarked on a multi-nation tour of Latin America, beginning with São Paulo, Brazil. His visit, which includes Uruguay, the Bahamas, Barbados, and Nicaragua, aims to bolster India’s economic and diplomatic engagements in the region.
During his interaction with the Indian diaspora in São Paulo, Margherita praised their role in expanding India’s presence in Latin America. Sharing his views on social media platform X, he stated, “Delighted to interact with the Indian community in São Paulo. Their efforts in fostering stronger ties between India and Brazil and expanding India’s presence in Latin America are commendable.”
As part of his itinerary, the Minister will attend the swearing-in ceremony of Uruguay’s President-elect Yamandú Orsi and discuss trade opportunities in the Bahamas, building on agreements from the 2nd India-CARICOM Summit in 2024. His visit to Nicaragua marks a historic first for India’s Ministry of External Affairs. For Guwahati, stronger India-Latin America trade relations could open new avenues in textiles and manufacturing exports. With Assam’s emerging role in India’s global trade strategy, businesses in the region may benefit from expanded commercial opportunities in Latin American markets.
