The Union Budget 2025–2026 has announced the establishment of a new urea plant in Namrup, which is a significant milestone for Assam and the Northeast. The 12.7 lakh metric tons (MT) of urea produced annually by this plant will significantly benefit nearby farmers who depend on fertilizers for their crops. In addition, the region’s three dormant fertilizer factories will be restarted, increasing domestic fertilizer production and lowering the demand for imports. Farmers in Assam and the surrounding states will have easier access to fertilizers as a result, enabling them to produce higher-quality crops. On X (previously Twitter), Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also disseminated the information of the new urea factory in Namrup.
He stated, “What a historic day for Assam! A 12.7 lakh MT urea plant in Namrup has been announced by #UnionBudget2025, fulfilling a long-standing Assamese demand. This urea complex, along with the semiconductor plant in Jagiroad, will revolutionize the entire Northeast. It will enable us better harness our natural gas resources and become self-sufficient in fertilizer availability. I express my sincere thanks to Hon. Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi Ji and Hon. Finance Minister Smt @nsitharaman Ji on behalf of the people of Assam.” The creation of Cancer Day-Care Centers in every district hospital during the following three years has also been announced in the Union Budget 2025–2026.
