Noted Assamese singer Samar Hazarika passes away

Noted Assamese singer and younger brother of Dr Bhupen Hazarika, Samar Hazarika, passed away on Tuesday morning. He breathed his last at his Nizarapar residence in Guwahati. He had been suffering from pneumonia for a long time. Hazarika began his musical journey in 1960 and went on to lend his voice to several Assamese film songs. Over the years, a number of his albums were also released, earning him recognition among music lovers. His passing has left a void in Assam’s music world, with admirers and members of the cultural community mourning the loss of a respected voice. His last rites will be performed at Nabagraha crematorium in Guwahati with full state honors. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has mourned his demise. Condoling Hazarika’s death, Assam Minister and AGP president said that his loss is an irreparable one for Assam’s cultural life. “Deeply saddened by the passing away of Samar Hazarika, a luminous figure in Assam’s cultural world. His songs evoke deep nostalgia, and his melodious voice and creative brilliance touched countless hearts,” Bora said.
