NPP Announces Candidates for Assam Polls, Fields Daniel Langthasa from Haflong

The National People’s Party has announced its candidates for the upcoming Assam Legislative Assembly elections in 2026, along with its nominee for a by-election in Nagaland.
According to a statement issued from the party headquarters in Shillong, the Central Election Committee has finalized key candidates for multiple constituencies in Assam.
Daniel Langthasa has been nominated to contest from the 113 Haflong (ST) constituency, a significant seat in the hill district. Meanwhile, Ganseng Sangma will represent the party from the 28 Boko-Chaygaon (ST) constituency, and Aminul Islam has been fielded from the 11 Mankachar (General) constituency.
In addition to its Assam lineup, the NPP has also named L. Abenjang as its candidate for the 28-Koridang (ST) Assembly constituency in Nagaland for the upcoming by-election.
The party stated that all candidates were selected after careful consideration by its Central Election Committee, signaling its intent to strengthen its presence in the northeastern political landscape.
With the announcement, the NPP has formally entered the electoral fray, joining other major parties in gearing up for the 2026 Assam Assembly elections. Political observers note that the party is focusing on both tribal and general constituencies, reflecting a broader outreach strategy.
The coming months are expected to witness intensified campaigning across Assam, as parties vie to consolidate support ahead of the polls.
