The Seemanta Kreeda Mahotsav 2025 began with a grand opening ceremony at the Sarusajai Sports Complex in Guwahati on Tuesday, transforming the venue into a lively showcase of youth energy, sporting excellence, and national pride. Organized by the Seemanta Chetana Mancha Purvottar, the three-day event is dedicated to promoting unity and empowering young people from India’s remote international border regions. The inaugural function was graced by several distinguished guests, with Pabitra Margherita, Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Textiles, as the Chief Guest. Other prominent attendees included Dr. Umesh Chakraborty, RSS Sangha Chalak for Assam Kshetra; Daobaisa Boro, Executive Member of the BTR Government; Sandeep J. Kapur, CEO of The Hans Foundation; Chetan Kumar Shrivastav, General Manager of NF Railway; Prodip Timung, Director of Sports & Youth Welfare, Assam; and Pradeep Kumar, retired IPS officer and President of Seemanta Kreeda Mahotsav 2025.
This year’s festival features over 550 young athletes, carefully chosen from a pool of more than 6,000 participants hailing from nine international border districts of Assam. Through various competitions, the event is not only showcasing sports talent but also sending a powerful message of unity and collective strength among youth living in sensitive and often neglected frontier areas. Speaking at the event, Pabitra Margherita highlighted the importance of India’s border communities in the country’s overall growth. He pointed out that the central government has allocated ₹6,839 crore for the development of border areas under the Vibrant Villages Programme. “The border is like a mother’s sari—it must be safeguarded with care and respect. It is the responsibility of every citizen to contribute towards its safety and prosperity,” he said. He also appreciated grassroots organizations for engaging and inspiring the youth in these regions.
The Mahotsav was filled with cultural richness and patriotic spirit, as young athletes and spectators echoed slogans such as “United by Spirit, Driven by Passion, Inspired by the Nation.” The event aims to reinforce the idea of “One Nation, One People,” bringing together communities from across different corners of Assam.Adding to the event’s excitement, Olympic bronze medalist and Padma Shri awardee Lovlina Borgohain made a special appearance. A daughter of Assam herself, Lovlina shared her personal journey from a rural background to the international sports stage. Her presence deeply motivated the young athletes, as she encouraged them to remain determined and never lose hope in the face of challenges. Pradeep Kumar, the President of the organizing committee and a former IPS officer, expressed deep appreciation for all who made the event possible. “This Mahotsav is not merely a sports competition—it is a tribute to the courage and determination of the youth living in our border areas. It reflects their passion, their patriotism, and their potential to shape the nation’s future,” he said. The Seemanta Kreeda Mahotsav 2025 will continue till April 11, with a variety of sports events and cultural activities scheduled.
