Party Switching Common Before Polls, Says Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Bhupen Borah’s Exit

Priyanka Gandhi, Congress MP and chairperson of the Screening Committee, addressed the media in Guwahati on Thursday, emphasizing that the resignation of former Assam PCC president Bhupen Borah from the party would have minimal political implications. She remarked that it is typical for political figures to change parties before elections in India. Gandhi reassured that Congress maintains robust leadership in Assam and that the party is united and prepared to present a formidable challenge in the upcoming Assembly elections. She characterized the election as a significant battle, stating, “We consider this election a battle. We have many warriors, and we will win.”

Over the next few days, she indicated ongoing consultations would take place to ensure an organized ticket distribution for the elections. Gandhi remained engaged with party matters at Rajiv Bhavan, holding extensive meetings with the presidents of all 35 district committees and individually consulting with Congress MLAs to strategize and outline future actions. Earlier in the day, she participated in a meeting organized by the Political Affairs Department to discuss the upcoming Assembly elections and interacted with members of the Screening Committee, who have been actively visiting various constituencies to gather feedback from grassroots workers.
