Assam’s Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary, famous for its thriving population of one-horned rhinoceroses, has reopened to tourists after being closed for the monsoon season. The reopening ceremony was attended by Forest Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary and Water Resource Minister Pijush Hazarika, officially launching the new tourist season. Visitors can now explore the sanctuary’s rich wildlife through safari rides, with 20 jeeps and 13 elephants ready to take tourists deep into the wilderness.
Known for its dense population of one-horned rhinos, Pobitora offers a unique experience for wildlife enthusiasts. The sanctuary spans 38.85 square kilometers and is home to over 100 rhinos, more than 500 wild buffaloes, deer, and nearly 385 species of migratory birds.
Having been closed since May, the sanctuary is now set to attract tourists eager to witness Assam’s rich biodiversity up close.
