UPPL president Pramod Boro, elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha, will contest the assembly elections from the Tamulpur constituency. UPPL general secretary Raju Kumar Narzary announced the first list of seven candidates, stating the party will compete in all 15 constituencies in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), with a second list to follow soon. UPPL is a constituent of the NDA alongside their main rival, the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF). In the recent Rajya Sabha polls, Boro was the NDA candidate, elected alongside BJP’s Jogendra Mohan and Terash Gowala. Narzary will run from Dotma, while incumbent MLA Lawrence Islary has been re-nominated for the same seat. Other candidates include former ABSU president Dipen Boro for Udalguri, three-time former MLA Kamalsing Narzary from Bijni, Aninda Basumatary from Gossaigaon, and Nereshon Boro from Bhergaon. UPPL currently holds seven seats in the 126-member assembly, with Handloom and Textile Minister Urkhwa Gwra Brahma in the state cabinet.
