Rang Ghar is filled with joy on the first day of Bohag

As the 17th Greater Rangpur Rongali Bihu was celebrated with grandeur and tradition, the historic Rang Ghar grounds, which were constructed in 1746 by Swargadeo Pramatta Singha, came to life with color and celebration. The All Tai Ahom Students’ Union (ATASU) threw this colorful celebration to welcome Bohag, the Assamese New Year. Bihu was traditionally observed with regal grandeur at the Rang Ghar Bakori (courtyard) under the reign of Swargadeo Rudra Singha.

The festival brought back that long-standing custom and turned the historic monument into a hub of historical and cultural cohesion. Basanta Gogoi, the president of ATASU Central, lit the ceremonial lamp and raised the organization’s flag to kick off the day’s events. After this, Maidam Tarpan came. Cabinet Minister Pijush Hazarika was the chief guest and launched the main function. During his speech, Minister Hazarika commended the Rang Ghar Bihu’s organizers for preserving the custom and underlined that it represents peace and communal harmony.

The event celebrated Rongali Bihu, a cultural heritage in Assam, with husori performances from various groups. The symbolic Swargadeo, Abhijit Sensowa, was ceremonially escorted on an elephant to Rang Ghar. The event was officially flagged off by Tai Ahom Development Council President Mayur Borgohain. A commemorative book, ‘Rang Gharor Ronshinga’, was also released.
