Security forces seize Yaba tablets worth Rs 26 crore in Assam’s Cachar district

In an intensified operation against drugs, Cachar police arrested two drug smuggler and recovered 90,000 Yaba tablets valued Rs 26 crore  from a concealed compartment of a truck at Rangpur in Assam’s Cachar district. The arrested accused have been identified as Dalim Uddin Laskar and Abed Sultan Barbhuiya, both residents of Dholai in Cachar district. Acting on a tip-off, the police team launched the operation and seized the contraband items from the truck, which was suspected to be trafficked from Mizoram’s Champai district. Taking to X, Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “YABA tablets worth ₹27cr- NOW HISTORY! In an excellent anti-narcotics op by @cacharpolice in Rongpur, a vehicle coming from a neighbouring State was intercepted leading to Seizure of 90,000 YABA tablets and 2 Arrests,”. According to police, the Yaba tablets estimated to be worth Rs 26 crore in illicit market.

“We had prior intelligence that a truck carrying a large consignment of banned substances had started from Champhai and was heading towards Guwahati. Based on the input, teams were deployed and the vehicle was intercepted,” said an police official. A case under the NDPS Act was registered and further   investigation  launched to trace possible links of the drug network. On Sunday, police arrested seven persons and seized 86 kg of opium during a search operation at a residential house in Udiana village of Kamrup district. Among those arrested was the owner of the house, who, according to police, had been previously arrested in a similar drug-related case, raising concerns over repeat involvement in narcotics activities. The raid was carried out based on specific intelligence inputs.
