Sterlite Power has commissioned the Nangalbibra-Bongaigaon transmission line, a 400kV double-circuit Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS) project aimed at bolstering energy infrastructure across Assam and Meghalaya. The project spans 300 circuit kilometers and includes a 123 km transmission line crossing the Brahmaputra River and connecting Bongaigaon to a greenfield substation at Nangalbibra. The substation, with 300 MW transformation capacity, is designed for future 400kV expansion.
Arun Sharma, CEO of Infrastructure Business at Sterlite Power, said, “This project enables seamless transfer of over 1000 MW, improving power reliability in Meghalaya and Assam while supporting industrial and socio-economic growth.” Completed ahead of schedule, the project ensures stable power transmission and decongests downstream networks. A 132kV D/C line also connects Hatsinghmari, Assam, to Ampati, Meghalaya, for added power stability.
The improved power infrastructure is expected to enhance Guwahati’s market by supporting industrial growth, ensuring uninterrupted electricity for businesses, and attracting new investments. This will improve operational efficiency and bolster the city’s competitiveness as a regional trade hub. Sterlite Grid 32 Ltd, with a footprint across eight states, continues to focus on integrating renewable energy into India’s transmission grid, advancing the country’s sustainable energy landscape.
